FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How fast can the fastest go?

Indoor speed skating tops out around 25mph, perhaps a little faster. While this may not sound fast, that's an entire trip around a skating rink in about 8 seconds!

Where are practices?

During the season, practices are held at Orbit Fun Center in Huber Heights, OH. During the offseason, we sometimes practice outdoors for conditioning.

  • Orbit Fun Center

  • 5001 Nebraska Ave

  • Huber Heights, OH 45424

Do you only practice indoors?

During the season we primarily train indoors at the rink. However, during the offseason in the summer we also like to train at a 400m middle school track or one of the many paved trails around Dayton.

When do you practice?

The practice schedule with updates/cancellations is posted on our team's private Facebook page. Send an email or IM to the team to get added to that page. Right now, practice times are typically:

  • Sunday 10am-12pm

  • Tuesday 6pm-8pm

What should I bring?

Helmets are mandatory. Any bike helmet will work. We have a couple of loaner helmets if you don't have one.

We can loan you roller skates or rental inlines or you can bring your own skates.

Also bring a water bottle and wear athletic clothes and shoes.

How much does it cost when I choose to continue?

Our coaches are volunteers. Your dues go directly to the rink and covers your floor time.

Drop-in Rate: $5 per practice

Monthly:

  • $25 per month - Individual

  • $15 per month - First family member add-on

  • $10 per month - Second family member add-on

  • $50 max per family per month after that

Do I have to compete?

Absolutely not. There's no pressure to compete whatsoever.

When and where are the competitions?

We race primarily in the Midwest Point Series and the meets are once a month starting in October and ending in May with no meets in December or January. The schedule is posted on our Facebook page, but most of the meets are within a 2-3 hour drive of Dayton. If you're interested, we carpool and rent team houses to save our traveling competition skaters money. Also, we'll occasionally do fundraisers to help with travel expenses.
